Respondus Lockdown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is a browser that locks down the testing environment. When you use Respondus LockDown Browser you are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. Also, Respondus LockDown Browser with Monitor is an application that records the you via webcam while taking an online test.
Virtual Arkansas requires the use of Respondus Lockdown Browser for certain quizzes and exams. Below are important instructions for you to follow to insure you are successful when completing your exams.
How It Works
Installation
To get the Respondus Lockdown Browser onto your school device, your school tech team will download and install it from the Virtual Arkansas site.
To get the Respondus Lockdown Browser onto your own personal device, you will need to download and install it from the Virtual Arkansas site yourself.
School Chromebooks:
Students login to the Chromebook, login to Virtual Arkansas, and when they click to "Take this Quiz", the LDB extension will open for them.
Student Chromebooks:
Students login to the Chromebook, login to Virtual Arkansas, and when they click to "Take this Quiz", the LDB extension will open for them.
School Windows or Mac Computers:
Installation will place a LDB icon on the desktop. Students double-click and launch the LDB software, login using their VA credentials, and proceed to the exam.

LDB for Chromebooks
- Log the student completely out of Virtual Arkansas Portal / Dashboard.
- Ensure that the Chromebook is updated. Chromebooks that are beyond the auto-update period, especially, will have issues with LDB.
- Clear the student's browser data for all time
- Make sure you're logged out of Virtual Arkansas
- Top Right Corner > Three vertical dots
- More Tools
- Clear browsing data
- Set "Time Range" to "All Time"
- Make sure at least the two bottom checkboxes are checked (cookies and cached images) of the three that are available there. You can check all three, if able.
- Click "Clear Data"
- Close Google Chrome Then the student can open Chrome, login, and attempt the exam. He/She should be prompted for the start code at the beginning.
Check Your LDB Version
The Respondus Lockdown Browser icon will appear as a described below.
Windows: Check your version by launching the lockdown browser, and click the “i” icon in the top menu bar within the Lockdown Browser.
macOS: Check your version by launching the lockdown browser, and click the “globe” icon in the top menu bar within the Lockdown Browser.
Device Prep Before Taking a VA Test In Respondus Lockdown Browser
Windows PC or Apple Mac
- Ensure that all operating system updates have been installed
- Ensure that Google Chrome is installed and updated
- Ensure that the Zoom client is installed
- Ensure that the Virtual Arkansas iteration of Respondus Lockdown Browser has been installed and that there is an icon on the desktop for the student to click to open it when ready to test
Chromebook
- Ensure that all operating system updates have been installed
- Ensure that the Zoom for Chrome PWA is installed for the student user
- Ensure that the Virtual Arkansas iteration of Respondus Lockdown Browser Chrome extension has been installed for the student user.
